Welcome to Get Active
Research has demonstrated that being physically active helps to promote physical and emotional health and wellbeing. In children, physical activity is critical for motor development, cognitive improvement (the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought), psychosocial (meaning: individual thought and behaviour) and cardio-metabolic health; reducing body fat and helping to increase academic achievement.
It’s therefore vital that young people of primary school age keep as active as possible to help them be the best that they can be. This approach to exercise aligns with the saying “a healthy mind leads to a healthy body”. Here are some initial exercises that we suggest help primary aged children:
- Walking up and down your stairs
- Swimming
- Jogging and running outside or at the park with family
- Bike rides
- Some gardening activities, such as raking or even pushing a lawn mower
